For those of you who have been reading for a while, you know that I am a pretty busy person. A lot of this busyness is self-inflicted, but we won’t talk about that. Instead, I’d like to share some of the ways I schedule my success!
Scheduling success may sound like a funny concept, but I truly believe that you receive that which you put out into the world. If you are putting out feelings of positivity, productivity, and other good “ivities,” you’re going to get that in return. I have found that when I believe that I will succeed at something, I typically do.
Getting started with success
No matter what your task, you need to ask yourself: how are you going to keep yourself accountable? I am a very visual person, so I have a huge wall calendar to write on. When I feel overwhelmed, I like to see everything written down in orderly chunks.
I go one step further when the school year strikes. Excel comes in handy when I need to see my time broken down into hours. I color-code my time, so that I have a quick visual.
- Blue is for school.
- Purple is my magazine internship.
- Pink is writing and homework time: blogging, commenting, papers. Basically, the love triangle that is me, Microsoft Word, and books of varying sorts.
- Green is both alone time and time with N. This is time during which I will not make any other commitments!
- Gold is my money-making time.
Get rid of the stress
By setting my money-making time aside and giving myself a visual as to how much time I actually have to make money takes a lot of stress out of the fact that I still haven’t replaced my income from the bank! It’s encouraging to see the squares of gold that will soon be putting gold in my pockets – or would be, if we were still paid in gold in the USA. But I digress.
What stresses you about your schedule or your situation? I encourage you do find a way to eliminate that stress. Do you feel as though you don’t have enough time to yourself? Find a gap in your schedule, and pen – not pencil – yourself in!
Organize by your own rules
You’re the one who is reaping the rewards of this “scheduled success,” so make sure you organize your time in a way that makes sense to you and your lifestyle! Just make sure that you aren’t over booking yourself; there’s no greater inhibitor to success than burnout.
